Horrors of War...

Close your eyes and think of someone very close to you. Now imagine someone:

- Piercing this person's ears with hot rods
- Puncturing this person's eyes, gouging them out
- Inflicting burns on his body using cigarettes
- Breaking his bones and teeth
- And after torturing him in this brutal fashion for over 22 days, shooting him dead.

This is what the Pakistani army did to Lt. Saurabh Kalia of the 4th JAT Regiment of the Indian Army during the Kargil war. Imagine the plight of the old parents of this young man who received his body in such a state, imagine their rage and helplessness.

We talk so much about the power of the blogosphere. What use is that power if we can not help these parents by raising this issue so that it is heard by International Human Rights Organisations? We have seen instances of main stream media in the US championing issues that were raised by bloggers. Why not in India?

I am making this post with a very clear intent. I want all those who read this post to please raise this issue on their blogs. I realize, making a general appeal like that and expecting others to post will not work. Very specifically, I would like you Chandroo and you Sambhar Mafia to raise it on your blog and make two of your friends responsible for publishing it on their blogs. If everyone does that, geometric progression will take care of spreading it to all blogs in the Indian Blogosphere.

If nothing else, just sign the online petition of Lt. Saurabh Kalia's father.

I have never seen you "involved" in in something like this, just one more sign of advancing age I guess :-) But d'souzas link among the others strikes a jarring note. He's a guy who has an obvious political axe to grind.

>> If the bodies were so badly mutilated, why did Pakistan not just throw them away? Why even bother to hand them over? Was that country unaware of the opprobrium and outrage that would result? Why did India not make an immediate and loud fuss right there at the border? Why whisk the six dead soldiers away for a closed-door post-mortem in Delhi?

What is D'Souza trying to insinuate here ? And are his insinuations or his "second guessing" in line with what the parents of Saurabh Kalia or you want to point out ?

SJ Man...

You are absolutely right. I usually dont post stuff like this. But somehow thinking about the condition of Lt. Kalia's parents, I felt this is the least we can do for them.

Cheers,
D.

I am proud father of Capt. Saurabh Kalia and my grateful thanks to lakhs of people around the world supporting this noble cause of national importance. This is not only Saurabh's & his men case but involving national pride and honour of our men in uniform. Though world may not comment for Pak character due to some obvious vested interest but their barbaric deeds in East Pak (now Bangladesh), in Pearl's murder & genocide in their frontier areas recently are only a few glaring examples of what they think of human life, the greatest gift of God.

I happened to write to erstwhile Pak PM, Mr. Nawaz Sharif and also requested for audience with Pak Prez when visiting Agra only to ask one question, what turmoil Pak would have witnessed had India done to over 90000 Pak POWs in 1971 they did to Saurabh & his men.

I can send copy of the preliminary report of Saurabh's death to anyone showing an iota of doubt of the incident. What a shame, a person of stature of DGMO of Pak army, continuing to deny the presence of Saurabh & party when contacted, the Skardu Radio (POK)announcing the capture of this injured party but with a changed name, Lt. V K Kalia, what can be a greater lie, may be habit.

I completely agree with what you have to say... my father is in the army and i now what feels like when we hear abt such things happening to ur people... it might be normal for people to hear that... another Army man killed in Baramulla... BSF camp attacked... but ask us how it feels when we here of these incidents...

our army is not involved in acts of aggression in J&K... they die preventing acts of millitancy... and securin a future for the people and the nation... i dont want ny Indian to meet the faith of LT SAURABH KALIA n his team...

this is a must read for those who think soldiers are paid to die... remember patriotism cannot be bought... the Army is not a bunch of goats to be slaughtered... Cannon fodder to be fed to the enemy guns... they our our frenz... brothers... fathers... husbands...sons... who chose martyrdom to a petty life...

It is high time that we Indians become more agressive. We must not ignore such incidents. We must use our every diplomatic, political influence in the world to force Pakistan to indentify and punish the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

Why hasn't Surabh Kalia been given any national award? Why can't we name a wing of Parliament or a square in New Delhi after him and 5 other troopers who died with him. When all kinds of celebrity people get nominated to a Rajya Sabha seat, don't you think that Dr. Kalia as the father of a national hero qualifies to be also nominated to Rajya Sabha? He would easily be a role model for eevry Indian family and a very good spokesman for raising important issues and matters of national defence.

Hello Friends,

We should take this issue seriously and move everyone not only this country but all over the world. We should leave no stone unturned.

Let us discuss and approach this issue in a very strategic manner.

http://tomakeadifference.net

Those who are interested to support this cause, please mail your ids to me.

Dr. N.K. Kaliya and his family, they are not fighting for themselves. Their proud son will never return to them. They want to fight for every soldier of this country. Without soldiers what would be our plight?

Please think. Let us join hands. Let us unite. Let us not stop till we reach our goal. We should compel the govt. to take action and take this issue to ICJ and also the case of PoWs should be pursued.

Thank you.

with regards,
Prasanthi.

This indeed shows their barbaric nature. After all, these are the descendants of the people who tortured Sambhaji (Shivaji's son) to death in the most brutal manner, hung his body up, and then had it chopped into many pieces and thrown into the river so that even the mutilated body could never recieve a proper cremation. I salute Amar Veer Saurabh Kalia. I also challenge the paki "army" - face us like men. You cowards. You wait till 5 gallant men run out of ammo, and then torture them? We will crush your dirty nation, you bastards.

I feel sorry for the Lt and his men and the parents and every one affected but these are the horrors that come with war and last till the hatred lasts

You guys want to raise the issue for u have the resources but i have seen parents crying but unable to do anything for their beloved ones were butchered in Indian custody and their bodies returned in a more worst shape then the Lt u speak of here but they lack the resources to do anything
it happens on both sides and it will keep happening till the hatred continues and after reading the posts here i am sure that its not gonna end in the next few centuries

May his soul rest in peace.

It would have been far less painful if he died in battlefield.

The fcuked up ones from Pakistan would be waiting to vent all their frustration and anger on India. Prisoners are easiest to way to take out all the frustration.

The prisoner for them is not just another person from enemy country doing just his duty. But he represents all the entire country, India.

all the problems, accusations, deaths, conflicts would be blamed on him. as if Lt. Saurabh is responsible for starting the whole Kargil offensive.

after watching this. Indian Soldiers too will be enraged and would want to vent their anger on Pakistan POWs or a Kashmiri protesting against Indian Army.

Should prisoners be used means to vent soldiers anger?
May be its better to line all war prisoners and shoot them at once.

Dying an immediate death is easier than sustaining torture for so many days.

Government, Society expects Soldiers to fight,
inspires soldiers with patriotism

wants soldiers to direct anger towards the enemy in battlefield

expect to soldier to bear all the horrors of war,
see his mates die on battlefield in an helpless way.
Suppress all his fears and be always brave

but expect all the , anger, frustrations, emotions, sentiments to be strictly controlled with a prisoner of war.

Salute to the Armed Forces of my country.
who are forced to bear all the ugliness of war, death and destruction and still be brave and follow his commanders word even if it means his immediate death.

Yet Soldiers are expected to behave, feel like normal human beings during war, after the war.

My question is, why India did not think about another war for this cause, in the first place?

Do you think India cares about her soldiers so much?
I am not sure if even the society does.

Society, Country is more interested in India beating back Pak forces in Kargil.
Calling Soldiers death as martyrdom, sacrifice, finally a hero.

The soldiers who survived are also brave heroes who defended the country, pride of the nation.

All this is supposed to help soldier feel that its worth fighting the war, killing people, watch all the ugly things happen during that time.

What about extreme emotional pain, psychological horrors he suffered with his fellow soldiers during war.

All this talk of hero is probably supposed to suppress any emotional nightmares, frustrations, he might have after.

And soldiers who cannot forget suffer silently.

only fellow soldiers can probably understand his pain and suffering.

Country or Society cannot do anything more than giving respect or calling him hero.
